Fire chiefs highlight risks of common home care products
The London Fire Brigade has highlighted fire risks associated with health care equipment commonly used to care for people at home.
The fire service is particularly concerned about people using dynamic air flow mattresses that prevent bed sores, emollient creams, home oxygen tanks and incontinence pads.
Smoking in bed or near these items is the biggest risk factor for fires affecting house- or bed-bound people.
Many thousands of people use these products daily without incident, however the fire service has urged City and Hackney Safeguarding Board to promote greater awareness of these risks.
More information on how to reduce the risks is set out in the London Fire Brigade's 2015 report here.
