New GP elected to lead health in City and Hackney
Dr Mark Rickets has been elected chair of the City and Hackney clinical commissioning group (CCG).
The Nightingale Practice GP will take up his new leadership role in April when current chair Dr Clare Highton’s term comes to an end.
Dr Rickets has been a GP for around 25 years and has practised in Hackney for most of that time.
He currently chairs the CCG's primary care quality board.
He told fellow GPs that City and Hackney CCG was in a 'relatively good place' developed through many years of engaging with patients and the public, local GPs, providers and the local authority.
Developing these relationships will be increasingly important as the NHS faces unprecedented challenge and change, he added.
Dr Rickets said he would continue to promote the values of the NHS as a high quality service, free at the point of delivery to everyone, regardless of ability to pay.
The new incumbent acquired particular insight into being a patient when he was seriously injured cycling to work in 2007 and required nine operations to help him walk again.
