More than 1,500 respond to Hackney's special needs consultation
More than 1,500 people responded to a council consultation on changes to the way disabled and special needs pupils are funded in Hackney.
The proposals put out to a six week consultation before Christmas generated fierce opposition from local families and school staff who say the plans are unlawful and deny disabled pupils access to vital needs’ assessments.
The council is also planning a 5% cut to funding for all high needs Hackney pupils from April and is expected to publish the consultation findings in February.
Healthwatch Hackney provided a response to the consultation after a number of Hackney parent carers contacted us to express concerns about the proposals. You can read our response here.
